Hello everyone. I'd like to start off by saying I feel bad for coming out of the gate asking a question in a new forum. I've been searching around for about a day now and can't find a solution to my problem.
First the specs:
Intel i5 2.66Ghz Quad Core
Ripsaw 8GB RAM 1333
WD 2.0TB HDD
500W PSU
NVIDIA 9600GT GPU
A couple of things to be noted -- everything I have in this apartment is SATA. I gave my old computer (ide/sata) to my mom, and decided to build my own. Everything I have is backed up on a single, 400gb, portable hard drive. I don't have a lot of things to test with, but if necessary, I can ask my roommate if I can borrow his CD drive/HDD and things of the sort (but I'm sure he'd like his computer untouched).
The problem: Well I got everything in the day before yesterday (yay!). I took my sweet time building the computer just to make sure I have everything in the right spot. Yesterday I plug everything it in and turn it on, and I see a boot menu! I pat myself on the back for a job well done. I go into the BIOS settings and change boot order to CD > HDD > LAN. Save and exit. It tries to load, and gives me the error listed in the title "DISK BOOT FAILURE. INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER" I put my Windows 7 Ulitmate disk (full copy, not upgrade) into the disk drive, close it, press enter, it thinks for about 10 seconds, then starts flashing that message again at me.
What I've tried so far:
-switching the optical and hdd between sata0 and sata1
-having only the optical plugged in on sata0
-different install disk (ubuntu 10.04)
What suggestions do you guys have for me?
