  • BIOS Setting Question - What is "CPU Clock Drive" & "PCI Express Clock Drive"?

I have built my brother a machine with a GA-X58-USB3 and to save myself the compatibility issues that I had with my X58A-UD3R - I got him to buy a CPU, Mobo, RAM, Heatsink combo pack that the shop would build and run stability tests on over night before I picked them up. They offered an overclock pack and I thought why not and I could always tweak the settings myself later.

I've written them down in the manual of my brother's motherboard manual but I may post them up here to see what people think but some of the settings did look a bit odd based on what I'd learnt about overclocking my i7-930 on my UD3R board.

One of the settings that stood out was that they'd set:
    CPU Clock Drive = 700mV
PCI Express Clock Drive = 700mV

You guys here hadn't ever recommended me to change these settings on my overclock, can someone who is more enlightened than me let me know what they do? Should I set them back to their default settings of 800mV and 900mV respectively.

I want to get my brothers OC nice and stable!

    THANKS

    Gigabyte GA-EP45T-EXTREME Living Review
Allows you to adjust the amplitude of the CPU and North Bridge clock
As of why they set it lower than normal you need to ask them.

      Apologies - just seen this:

Looks like it could have been FAIL SAFE DEFAULTS

I'm gonna stick them back to the Optimised Default settings !

Just raising the clock drives on their own isn't enough really. If they used failsafe defaults (which I'm sure they did) then many other hidden settings will also be set to failsafe.

Record all the settings, timings and voltages relevant to the OC, then load optimized defaults and re-enter them.

Re: BIOS Setting Question - What is "CPU Clock Drive" & "PCI Express Clock Drive"?

Sorry if my post was confusing - I have written down all the OC settings and they seem fairly similar to what my OC settings were for my X58A-UD3R which this forum kindly helped out with. These were the two settings that I had no idea about. I can easily put back the test of these OC settings that the store did, but I just wanted to know what it was before applying them and leaving him to deal with the potential issues.

From reading around here - not many people seem to have altered that setting and I wasn't recommended to change it. I just thought I'd ask if anyone knew what it did.
