  • ga-h55-usb3 issue?

not 100% its the mother board or the ram but i tried the ram 1 stick at a time and it ran fine. anyways, my computer has been running sluggish lately so i checked the basic stuff and saw that my ram was running in half, 4gig but (1.96 in use). also this, http://img198.imageshack.us/img198/2646/92413957.png , i went into bios and it shows dimm slot 1 and 3 at 2048, enabled slot 1 2048 enabled slot 3 -, total memory size 2048. so somehow my slot 3 is disabled? i dunno how..what do i have going on here lol im not that awesome at computers haha

this isnt mine but looks pretty much the same minus the extra stick of ram:
    GA-X58-UD3R Won't Enable 3rd DIMM Slot - Gigabyte - Motherboards-Memory
says something about a bent pin but i havent touched the inside of my computer since i built it or cleaning with air only and only lately ive been having this problem. thanks

    Re: ga-h55-usb3 issue?

i just saw that there is an update for my bios from f6 to f7, the latest version for my board. should i go ahead and flash the bios with q-flash? it claims to, "Improve memory compatibility"

You are using the white slots correct? Just checking to be sure.

Can you boot with a single stick in either white slot? You should be able to, if not there is a problem and it's probably bent CPU socket pins.

If you can't boot like that, then you'll need to remove your CPU and take some pictures of the socket for us to look at.

If you do that, please take the images in a well lit room with no flash and Macro mode if you can. Take a few from different angles.

        Re: ga-h55-usb3 issue?

yeah i have the ram in the white slots for dual channel.

ive booted with 1 stick in each slot and ive ran memtest86 and its came back with no errors.

whats weird is that ive had this setup since september, 600w ocz / i5 750 / gigabyte ga-h55-usb3 / ripjaw 12800 @ 1600mhz / 9600g and i havent had a single problem, but now all of the sudden its running my ram in half. when i bought my ram it came as 1333mhz and i had to set it to profile1 in bios to make it 1600mhz. i realized last night that by setting it back to 1333mhz, my computer runs it at 4gigs of ram.

any idea why it was fine before then all the sudden it stopped? should i just get new ram? 1333mhz feels lil slow

          Re: ga-h55-usb3 issue?

Well it could be the memory itself still, can you test with any others, or buy a new set easily to test with? If you can get a new set and don't mind doing so that would be great, then you could test and have new memory at the same time.

Since you can boot with a stick in either channel your pins sound to be fine, maybe it's just you need to adjust your voltages in the BIOS?

What QPI/Vtt and ram voltages are you using? Set 1.66 for ram, and try QPI/Vtt 1.25-1.35 and see if that helps.

im actually shoooort on cash so i cant just buy new ram right now, i believe its life time warranty? havent checked since i bought it though.

ive never messed with the voltage stuff, im a little scared with that haha. im not that good at computers or bios..i dont know what QPI/Vtt is but i think the ram is 1.5?

              Re: ga-h55-usb3 issue?

What is the exact model of your memory and I'll check what voltage it needs to be set at.

QPI/Vtt is the memory controller voltage, if this is set to low by auto that can cause you to be missing memory.

so theres a setting in bios under power management, "qpi/vtt", just set that to 1.25 - 1.35 and im good..after you find the correct setting for the ram of course.

                  Re: ga-h55-usb3 issue?

QPI/Vtt is in the MIT page, then voltage control, same page as memory voltage.

You are right, that is 1.5V rated memory. So maybe set 1.52 memory voltage, then try 1.2-1.35 QPI/Vtt until you set the correct memory amount.

                    Re: ga-h55-usb3 issue?

hello back..changed the qpi/vtt to 1.210V. then i changed the DRAM to 1.560V, this was the next option above 1.500V. then i set the ram back to 1600mhz and for now its saying 4gigs of ram installed and in use yesssssssssssss haha i just hope it stays this way, before it would say this and change within a few hours so maybe ill be posting later but thanks for all your help mr. lsd!

                      Re: ga-h55-usb3 issue?

Nice to see you got it going with full 4GB now!!

Now you can test lower ram back to 1.5 and see if it was the QPI/Vtt that helped or if it was the ram voltage. It was probably the QPI/Vtt that helped.

im back! so the past 2 days my computer has frozen once per day...while not even in use. ive been in the other room and ill come to use it and its frozen. no blue screen or any errors just simple frozen, nothing worked at all even my restart button. i had to hold startup button to shut it down. so today after my restart i checked to see if the ram was the issue again and its back to 1.96gigs usable. so upset grrr, mr lsd i need your brain to help me again!

So what settings are you using now when this happens?

the same exact that we went over: changed the qpi/vtt to 1.210V. then i changed the DRAM to 1.560V

OK, leave ram and try QPI/Vtt 1.225-1.35 and see how that works for the next few days.

Start at 1.225 and then if ram still fails to all load bump this up until it all loads, then maybe one more, then run and test it like that for a few days.
