  • ga-m56s-s3 PCI-E issues.

    Hi. I has this motherboard
    ga-m56s-s3

and it seems that it cant run any powerful PCI-E videocards, why? I has AMD Athlon 4400+ installed with it and a 2gb ram. When i bought this computer it had Sparkle nVidia 8500Gt ,once it burned down i replaced it with 7300gs (real cheap version) , and now i'm trying to make it run with Club 3d HD 4650 1GB , the problem is that when i insert it the cpu cooler runs slow and the screen remains black. No beeps or anything - what is the problem? Does it Non-Support that vcard? I was searching up on net and i found pci-e 1.0 and pci-e 2.0 but i think my board supports 2.0

Also,i'd like to note that i have changed power supply too,but it's just not helping . I set all my hardware on other Mothearboard and it just went perfect. Is it's possible that this motherboard is not supporting PCI-E 2.0 ?

PCIE 2.0 cards should be backwards compatible, but that is not always true.

Are you using the latest BIOS? I think you should be ok with the latest BIOS, I see mention of fixes for 5xxx series cards and they are for sure 2.0, but that of course doesn't mean your card in particular is.

Here is the latest BIOS, If you are not using it already please update using Qflash and your old graphics card and see if that helps.
      GIGABYTE - Motherboard - Socket AM2 - GA-M56S-S3 (rev. 1.x)

Here is a guide on how to use Qflash

If that doesn't help you'll need to send in a support ticket and see if they can test and fix this for you

Yes, DOS or Qflash would be suggested to update BIOS, that's why I linked the guide for you.

So it's updated now? Still have the PCIE issue or not?

              Cool, thanks!

Just wasn't sure if you meant flashing BIOS problem solved, or the PCIE issue also solved too.
