890FX Deluxe4 USB3 Problem

Hi everyone,
I have a problem with my motherboard. Whenever I connect something to the USB3 ports (especially of the front hub), the system hangs. The screen turns black, and I have to power off the PC to recover.
I have updated the Renesas USB3 controller drivers to version 2.0.34.0, without problems, but I want also to upgrade the firmware, from version 3021 to version 3027 (also found in this forum).
The thing is that the firmware updater tells me: plural host controllers detected and it doesen't let me update the firmware.

This is what I tried: disabled USB3 controller from BIOS (it disables both), disabled one controller from Device Management in Windows 7 x64 and the PCI-TO-PCI bridge where it's attached. Nothing!

Are you sure you have got this right? My 890FX Deluxe4 has a NEC USB3 Controller. Are you talking about the BIOS when you say Firmware? If you are, the BIOS for this board is 1.50

Thank you for the answer.

With Firmware I mean the firmware of the USB3 Controller that is indeed made by Renesas, but the label is NEC (NEC owns a part from Renesas). The drivers and firmwares are the same. In fact if you search for the product code of the USB3 controller, you will reach the Renesas website (and on station-drivers NEC and Renesas share the same page).

I know about Renesas/NEC. I do think if you use the NEC Driver from ASROCK you will have no problems. It works perfectly on mine.

I completely removed Renesas drivers and installed the NEC ones found in the ASRock website (on the 890FX Deluxe4).

1- I tried to plug an USB (2.0) HDD to the front hub and I got a freeze, but I was able to see the disk in "My Computer" for some seconds. Then it froze. I can see some events in the event viewer stating "The driver detected a controller error on \Device\Harddisk1\DR1."

Reboot

2- I was trying to plug in the USB HDD one more time, but when I inserted the cable on the USB Hub end (the HDD was not even connected to the other end of the cable), the system immediately crashed, with no errors in the event viewer.

Hello
I suggest use a totally different software environment to distinguish between software and hardware problem. For this, the best way is to boot from a live linux cd/dvd to test. Most recent distributions recognize nec usb3 chip and you can see what happens there.

Did you get the Renesas USB3 controller firmware to install? I have the same issue with the same Motherboard. I am trying to boot off of a USB 3.0 stick. Not sure if this firmware would fix it but worth a try.
