z68 Extreme4.. discrete sound card problem.

    z68 Extreme4.. discrete sound card problem.

    Just built a new system using the ASRock Z68Extreme4. I installed a creative soundblaster x-fi xtreme gamer sound card (pci) that I just pulled from my old system (so I am sure it works),
    but it will not let me use it. Just keeps telling me no audio device found. Tried the onboard sound setting in bios on auto, then off with the same result(onboard audio works at least).
    I am running 2 gtx470s sli and the sound card is in the pci slot between them. I have no other pci slot cards to test in the slot. Is there a way to tell if the slot is working, or am i just doing something wrong?

    i5 2500k stock
    8gb corsair 1600mhz
    1tb wd hdd, 64 gb ssd (for srt)
    950watt PC Power&C psu

    Using latest BIOS? Any power connectors needed for the sound card? It should work when you disable onboard sound in the BIOS,

      You neglected to say what OS you are using. Try this link for the appropriate drivers, be aware that Creative support for older hardware with Vista and Win 7 sucks.

        OS is win7 64bit. Using the latest bios (1.40). The sound card does not require a power connector. I did download the latest drivers from creative. when I try to install them it
        just tells me there is no compatible device found on the system. Checked device manager and it is not showing up in there. Thinking maybe the pci slot is bad? Oh and I did turn
        onboard audio off, also tried auto, neither option works. Thanks for the suggestions, I welcome anymore you may have.

          You will have to search for modified drivers as the ones from Creative don't work. They have no desire to support their older boards, they are trying to force you to buy new hardware. There are modified drivers out there, you just have to find them.

          Update: I might have been a little hasty in this particular case, I was running into the same symptoms you were on an install on an old system with Vista 64 SP2. It amazing what a difference a thorough cleaning of the edge connector on the Audigy card will make. It showed up on bootup, Vista found the WDM driver on Windows update and installed the Sound Card and Firewire port, however did not find a driver for the game port on the card. Retrying the Creative drivers right now, they seem to be installing properly.

            After cleaning the pci connecter pins and making sure i had the card firmly in the slot, my sound card is now working:) thanks for all the help. Sorry it took so long to post back. I was on vacation

              I have a problem with a PCI Audiotrack HD2. With all versions of the Via Envy24 drivers (that is the chip this card uses - and best drivers for Windows 7 x64) Windows will not shutdown, gets hung right at the last stage where it shuts down the sound card. I have a PCI-Express Xonar STX and this works fine. The Asrock Z68 Extreme4 appears to have a problem with PCI Envy24 sound cards with Win 7 64.
