  • Unknown beeps from the Motherboard

Hi there, I just built up a new system (GA-970A-UD3, 8GIGs of ram in a two stick configuration, 650 power supply, , AMD Phenom II 3.2G CPU, and NVIDIA PCI-E) (this is a second system for my stepson. I have the exact same setup with the exception that my video card is an AMD 6600 PCI-E).

What I do not understand is that after I built up the system, I get three long beeps and one short beep. The manual does not provide any information on what this is, so I checked everything (verified connections are solid, tested power supply, ensured that the standoffs are indtalled properly and swapped out the ram and video card from my system into the newly built system and I still get the three long beeps and one short beep. The CPU the only thing I have not checked but from what I understand if the CPU failed, I would not get any type of post code faults.

If anyone has any advice, I would be grateful.

    Thanks!!

what beep codes mean, depends on what bios the board has. Computer Hope has a quick page for it: Computer POST and beep codes

Re: Unknown beeps from the Motherboard

Thanks for the feedback, I did test the power supply and it came up with a bad voltage for the 3.5 floppy drive. Everything else seemed fine. But I will try another power supply, just to make sure.

Re: Unknown beeps from the Motherboard

I'm assuming you have tried clearing the bios (remove power cord, remove battery, (set jumper if board has it, should have), hold the powerbutton down 5-10secs to make sure left over voltage has cleared and no settings are saved).

Also remove anything that doesn't need to be connected for it to boot - and i mean anything. One ram module only, cpu and gfx card if it doesn't have onboard - no drives of any form, just to make sure, and any connection except power, keyboard (use PS2 if you have) and monitor - just for a test. I've had USB devices block on fresh setup comps in the past (special hubs)
