  • problem assembling computer

    I am a first time computer builder and I have a ASRock Z68 Extreme3 Gen3 motherboard SeaSonic S12II 520 Bronze 520W power supply Seagate Barracuda ST500DM002 500GB internal hard drive XFX Double D HD-687A-ZDFC Radeon HD 6870 graphics card G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) of ram and an i5 2500k cpu. i put it all together and cant get the bios to come up. I also have a 45 come up on the motherboard and it isnt in my manual. How do i know if i set it up wrong or if i have a bad part? Can anyone tell me where to go next?

    tried without the graphic card installed? made sure you plugged the graphic card power plugs in? usually two 6pin plugs,and made sure you plugged the 24pin motherboard power and 4 or 8pin cpu power plugs in from the psu?

      page 43 in your user manual:
      0x3F-0x4E = OEM post memory initialization codes

      These are not decimal codes, they are hexadecimal numbers where the sequence is 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, A, B, C, D, E, F
      In this case, the codes are 3F, 40, 41, 42, 43, 44, 45, 46, 47, 48, 49, 4A, 4B, 4C, 4D, 4E

      If you system halts with code 45 (hex), there probably is a memory problem.
      Try booting with only one memory module installed, starting with the first memory slot.
      You might need to run separate boot tests with each memory module in different slots to determine if the problem is with the modules or the memory slots.

      Before you add or remove memory (or any hardware), turn off your pc, turn off the power supply switch at the rear of your case, then press and hold the front panel on/off switch for 10 - 15 seconds to discharge any stored electrical charge in your system. I suggest that you unplug the power supply cable at the wall outlet before you discharge your system. If you don't take these precautions, you might damage any hardware that you remove or install.

        Just a suggestion: try connecting your monitor to the motherboard video connector. I have the same board and same graphics card, and can only get a video signal from the motherboard outputs.
