  • P55 Extreme MB halts on waiting for user input

Having problem with MB halting on user input (code 85). Problem start a 3 weeks ago when it started taking 20-30 minutes to reboot and has progress to the point where I have to shut the PC down for a least an hour or more before it can boot up. finally got it up on Sunday and was able to update Bios to 2.7 but have not been able to get past keyboard lock up since. It hangs a code 06 for about 10 minutes the goes to 0C for another 10 minutes and finaly gets to 85 but the keyboard num locks lites up but it is locked. I have checked the PWRS and all voltages are OK and fans all run, swapped memory and tried a couple of different keyboards on all USB ports that work OK on my other two PCs. I am thinking I have a bad MB that is a year+ out of warranty. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Did you try using a PS/2 keyboard instead, or USB to PS/2 adapter with your USB Keyboard?

Also remove all other USB devices, code 85 means = Initialize additional Onboard Controllers and USB devices

Tried that with USB keyboard adapter but same results. Tried again this morning and got as far as OC (detecting keyboard) then the MB shutdown after about a minute. Tried a couple of more times with same result. Any other magic bullets besides the one from my .38?</SPAN>

Try using an actual PS/2 keyboard and remove mouse too in case that's an issue, or no keyboard or mouse connected and see if it boots past the POST Screen with nothing connected.

Tried that a couple of times 2 days ago and it still shutdown, never got to post screen. Tried again this morning an it took about 20 minutes to get to the login screen. Plugged keyboard and mouse and was able to login and it runs fine once up and running. Did another reboot w/keyboard & mouse connected and it took 7 minutes to get to login screen but did boot. I still suspect the MB is flakey and have a replacement on the way. Thanks for all the help.

Did you ever try clearing the CMOS or updating the BIOS? That may help, if you can't update the BIOS due to the KB issues, try clearing the CMOS for an extended period and see if that fixes the issue before you send the board out for RMA
