  • Unable to update bios?

Hi I'm try to update my bios to the "Ua5(UEFI BIOS)" recently released for my Z68AP-D3 motherboard. The description says "When updating from legacy to UEFI, use only the utility attached to your BIOS file."

After extracting it, and clicking on the .exe it just says "the version of this file is not compatible with the version of windows you're running..."
I'm running windows 7 pro 64bit. How can I update my bios

      Re: Unable to update bios?

This cannot run from within windows, you need to create a boorable DOS usb drive or a CD and run it from DOS.

Is it safe to update it that way? It says to use the utility attached to the bios file.
I've used @BIOS to update before. Can i use that?

          Re: Unable to update bios?

No @Bios well I guess you can but your risk factor for failure is way higher. Look flashing the bios is simple process using qflash and the bestway. Barring a power failure or something really extreme it safe.

            Re: Unable to update bios?

it should be even easier on uefi boards with using qflash,if you have a rare usb not recognized then id use the latest version of @bios,but try and get used to using qflash,i flash my bios from within the bios/dos with ezflash on my z68 asus, its easy

              Re: Unable to update bios?

Guys when flashing a Z68 motherboard to the newer UEFI bios you have to boot from a bootable usb flash drive and run the special UEFI flasher to flash the bios from dos.

Do not use q-flash or @bios!!!!!

                ^ +1.

First of all is not Award BIOS anymore ,second is different size and third is different BIOS ID.

                Edit:
GB will hopefully released special @BIOS soon.

                  Re: Unable to update bios?

I posted the following in the http://forums.tweaktown.com/gigabyte...tml#post430433 thread, post #6167:
The downloaded bios file contains 3 separate files:
                  autoexec.bat
                  FLASHEFI.EXE
                  Z68XUD3H.U1H
When you run the downloaded EXE file, it should extract all 3 files.

You will need to create a bootable usb drive or cd/dvd with these files on the drive.

The autoexec.bat file contains only 1 line:
                  FLASHEFI Z68XUD3H.U1H

This means that when you boot from your usb or optical drive, FLASHEFI will automatically run and flash using the Z68XUD3H.U1H file.
Be sure to let the flashing process complete!!!

It's safest to flash using optimized bios settings that are NOT overclocked.
Note: Your extracted bios file might have a different name and the autoexec.bat file will have the correct bios file name.

How do I create a bootable usb flash drive?
I've read I can use the HP usb format tool but I'm not sure how to use it. What are the DOS system files i have to locate?

                      Re: Unable to update bios?

Making a Bootable USB Flash Drive:

                      Code:
                      8. Place FLASHEFI.exe and the BIOS .Uxx file onto the USB stick

                      9. Plug in your USB drive and reboot to enter bios.

                      10. Load Optimized Defaults, set the ram voltage to the specified Voltage for your ram

                      11. Go into the Hard Disk Boot Priority Option In Advanced BIOS Features Page and select your USB drive as the first bootable drive.

                      12. Reboot.

                      13. Once it boots to the USB, you will see a Windows 98 screen, and then the DOS prompt.

14.After this run flash utility by typing "[COLOR="#0000FF"]FLASHEFI Z68APD32.UA5[/COLOR]" without the quotes at the DOS prompt.

No He is tring to update to a UEFI bios from a EFI old school bios. So there is no easy just flash it method, well it is easy just cant use q-flash or @bios. Once he is flashed to the new bios he should be able to use q-flash afterwards to flash newer UEFI bios's.

Ok, I was successfully able to flash the new UEFI bios in dos. Thanks everyone!
Unfortunately, I have found this new UEFI bios to be less stable than the older bios, version FD...
It does not seem to boot with my previous undervolt settings... How can I revert back?

I already tried flash in dos by typing in "FLASHSPI Z68APD32.FD" but it says "bios does not support flash interface"
