  • Just my thoughts on ASRock

I got my first ASRock product about 2 months ago. It was a 990FX Extreme 3 motherboard. The reason I got it was because it looked really nice. The black colour scheme does look awesome but that's about the only good thing I found about this board. The PCB is somewhat of a poor quality. It's easily bendable and cheaply constructed. I won't blame ASRock for the no internal USB 3 header because that was my fault for not properly researching the board before buying but for the price point every competitor has an internal USB 3.0 header. The part that really bugs me about ASRock is their customer service. They have no phone number on their website for technical support. The only way to contact them is via email. I emailed them about a problem with my CPU underclocking often when barely under any load and no one bothered replying yet. The email was sent to them about 2-3 weeks ago. I even posted a thread in this forum hoping someone from ASRock would help me but that has yet to happen. Overall I am pretty disappointed in them. This was my first and last product I will ever buy from ASRock. I regret not spending $10 extra and buying a competitor motherboard. I now have a useless outdated board that I can't even use without overheating and underclocking my CPU. I say you should save your money and go with a more serious company that cares about their customers.

do you still have the board? try rma or try and get it working, could have been a bios issue or another component? asrock are pretty good in my experience with them, they replaced a faulty board free and responded to emails quickly, but that would depend on what part of the world you live i suppose, for me in the uk i had to rma to holland

i rate asrock customer services much better than asus, had terrible response/service from them

Most all mobo's will underclock the CPU, so its not just an ASrock thing.

Asus, the lying thief company is a joke.

As for your comment about the cpu underclocking at barley any load, that's right, when barley under any load, the cpu will underclock, you worry about it underclocking when running 10 apps.

Who want's to waste electric when not doing anything.

Until you set the CPU multiplier, bump up the clocks, or run XMP, the CPU will clock down when not running heavy apps.

I don't see any problem with your MOBO.

Outdated, where do you get this, you have 5- sata 3 ports, AM3 + - socket, and 2 rear USB 3.0, and 2100 memory.

The only way you can not be outdated is to buy a Intel based MOBO.

Yes I still have the board. And you don't get it. I overclocked mine so I disabled any kind of underclocking. It should stay at 4 ghz all the time but randomly the voltage drops to 0.85v and the CPU underclocks to 1.4ghz causing everything to lag especially if I'm in a game the fps drops like crazy. I'm guessing their northbridge heatsink is pretty poo.

The only reason I said outdated is because it doesn't have internal USB 3 but otherwise it's not too bad.

I just bought the AsRock fatality champion (X79).
For what its loaded with, it seems like a pretty decent price too.

The reason I went with AsRock is because I heard horrible things about Asus and Msi customer service even- if they do make good products. Gigabyte's early (x79) boards were recalled due to bios issues, and evga recalled their entire x79 lineup iirc...
