Differing CPU Temps

So here's my recently built computer:
Fatal1ty 990FX motherboard
FX-8120 3.1ghz (OC @3.4ghz)
Antec Kuhler H20 620
16 gb G.Skill Sniper Low Voltage mem.
HD6790
Creative Titanium Fatal1ty X-Fi
OCZ Fatal1ty 750w PS


When I installed the Antec Kuhler, CPU temp at idle was 30C...under load it was about 35C.

After 3 days, idle has jumped to 40-45C at Idle....


Right now, after rebooting CPU temps are:

UEFI/Bios says CPU is 40C (which I assume is rising, since at one point I stayed in the bios and watched it slowly rise .5C at a time.)

ASRock's F-Stream says 33C

CoreTemp 1.0 RC3 says 13C

Which should I believe? Yes I am Overclocked to 3.4ghz..

I would believe the UEFI and ASR's software. Some AMD boards have a so-called CPU temp reading that is impossibly low, as shown in CoreTemp. 13c is ~55F, and it is impossible for any liquid cooler to cool the CPU below room temperature.

The temp in the UEFI is usually higher on most boards because the CPU power saving features have not started yet. Also, UEFI's tend to use one core of the CPU but at a high level for whatever reason. Both reasons are why you see lower temps when in Windows.

I'm a bit confused about where you are seeing the higher temps, is that only in the UEFI or once the OS has booted?

Regardless, can you check the speed of your coolers pump, and the speed of the fan(s) on the radiator. Have they changed for some reason? How are you controlling the CPU coolers fan speed?

The cooler is a self contained unit. As far as I can tell, there is no way to check the speed of the pump.

The temps are checked this way. I have the pc on and running windows. I do various normal things like surf and play a game, specifically Mass Effect 3. I shut off the game after 30 minutes then let the system idle for another 30 minutes. Then I reboot and go into the UEFI/Bios. The CPU temp will be at 35c then steadily climb, by .5c. After 30 minutes, I discard changes and reboot to windows...at that the time the CPU temp is at about 40C-45C at reboot. I then run F-Stream which shows about 32C-34C...

May I suggest trying this monitoring tool, HWiNFO, which is free to download here:

Install it and run it when you are in Windows, and run the Sensor (check Sensor Only when it starts, or not to see more info) display, and let it sit in the corner of your screen. It shows all kinds of info, but scroll down to the CPU temp section. You'll see core and overall CPU temps, and you'll see current, minimum, and maximum temps it recorded while it has been running. IMO, it is accurate and dependable. Using it will allow you to monitor your CPU temp in real time, and see the low and high temps during your session on the PC. If you left-click on an item on the display, like CPU package (overall CPU temp) a graph display will appear, showing the CPU temp over time, measured every two seconds.

This will allow you to see the temperature change of your CPU over time, and if it really is slowly increasing as you say it may be doing. If you discover that is true, then we can take it from there, but you need to monitor the CPU temp in Windows for a long period of time, such as an hour.
