GA-Z68X-UD3H-B3 (1.3). I installed the most recent versions of the utilities and drivers and udated the BIOS to UEFI. Along the way, Secunia PSI gave an alert that Apache (2.2.15) needed updating to 2.2.23. A file search tells me that's part of the Marvell Storage Utility package. Do I really need it, let alone Apache, which seems to be network software? This is just a single user cable internet set up. There was a thread early this year that suggests MSU is a good thing: http://forums.tweaktown.com/gigabyte...e-utility.html. So I downloaded and unpacked the Unix source of Apache, not seeing a Windows verion - Download - The Apache HTTP Server Project - but I can't figure out what to do with it. The download page talks about getting the right version from the original source, whilte the Apache readme notes say INSTALL is what to use. But that's a system file and I don't see any executables. So I'm writing to ask some guidance on this. For what purpose would I need MSU and, if so, what do I do with the unpacked Apache? Thanks,

Re: Marvell Storage Utility and Apache update - what to do?
Did some more digging. It seems the main usage for the Marvell Storage Utility is aimed at RAID arrays using its GSATA chip. There also seems another usage having to do with virtual drives. Since I don't use RAID, the MSU can go. And with it, Apache.Last edited by genegold; 12-13-2012, 06:19 PM.ASRock Z97 Extreme6 / Intel i7-4790K

Re: Marvell Storage Utility and Apache update - what to do?
Apache is a web server. From what I could gather from Google, the MRU package has an API and the installer installs Apache along with PHP to utilize it. Bundling Apache and PHP with RAID utilities is a very odd decision, in my opinion.
Unless you uninstalled it altogether, you could grab the 2.2.22 no ssl MS Installer from Index of /dist/httpd/binaries/win32

Re: Marvell Storage Utility and Apache update - what to do?
for the RAID, yes, it's just for the G-SATA ports. when you create a raid array it's assigned a "Virtual Disk" number. so if you had (2) 120GB drives in a RAID0 then you would get a Virtual Disk that is 240GB. Marvel uses Virtual Disks similar to how Intel Raids are assigned an Array Name... Same thing, Different Pile.
You can create the RAID configuration on bootup of use this utility to create a RAID.. but this utility is useless if you want to play with your RAID that is running your OS

Re: Marvell Storage Utility and Apache update - what to do?
So that's how the RAID and virtual disk discussions tie together. Thanks to both for your comments. I have a Z68 board, but looking in the Z77 manual it says, "The Marvell 88SE9172 chip supports RAID function." It can support IDE and ACHI too, but later on the manual says, "With the Marvell Storage Utility, you can set up an array or view the current array status in the operating system...Please note that if you set the hard drive(s) to IDE or ACHI mode, it is normal that you will not see the hard drive(s) in the Marvell Storage Utility." No RAID, no purpose for the MSU driver. It'd be nice if Gigabyte would update the manuals for the pre-Z77 models, since they are offering the MSU driver for those too.ASRock Z97 Extreme6 / Intel i7-4790K

Re: Marvell Storage Utility and Apache update - what to do?
Yes, I also uninstalled the Intel one. From what a search turned up, Windows provides what's needed. Gigabyte would do well to make things clearer for users, although that might upset some business relationships.ASRock Z97 Extreme6 / Intel i7-4790K
