  • VGA output, but no HDMI (ASRock FM2A85X-ITX + PANASONIC VIERA 50" TX-P50G30B)

Hello all. I have just purchased the ASRock FM2A85X-ITX and am very disappointed. I cannot get HDMI to output. VGA works, but my TV doesn't support this legacy connection.

With the correct output selected on my TV, it displays HDMI1 on a black screen. With the HDMI cable connected to my TV when I boot the machine, '1080p 50hz detected' appears below 'HDMI1' before going black with the backlight still lit. I get no further than this. If I connect a VGA cabe at this point, I get output.

I have tried it with another small HDMI PC monitor elsewhere and it outputted just fine.

My TV is very common, modern and top of the range. I have connected numerous devices, including laptops and HTPCs - all have worked fine.

    For clarity:
It is not the HDMI cable
It is not the HDMI port
It is not the television or it's lack of resolution
    It is not OS related
It is not a faulty port on the motherboard
It is not limited to onboard graphics (tested with Asus PCI HDMI GFX card)
Clearing the CMOS will not resolve the issue
I have updated to the latest BIOS (1.4)

I hope someone can help me resolve this issue. As I'm sure you can imagine, I am very disappointed.

Missing important details. Are you using the onboard/CPU graphics capability? Do you have a standard PC monitor that you use too? Have you tried starting the PC with a standard monitor attached, and then activated a dual display mode of any kind, and see if the TV will display something? Usually TV problems with PC video output is a resolution mismatch.

In my experience, TV usage with PC video output is not automatic and easy, it almost always requires a resolution adjustment on the PC video side.

I also wonder if this problem is related to the different TV video formats used in the US and other parts of the world. Not that the USA, "World Area 1" DVD standard is better than elsewhere (it really isn't) but it is different. But it seems you've never had any issue like this in the past.

I am using onboard graphics, but as stated, I have tried using a Asus PCI HDMI GFX card which does the same.

I have borrowed a VGA monitor for testing, but no, I haven't tried doing things that way around. I will give it a go. I've not had any issues with my European TV in the past.

        Regards
