  • Thought I'd share this

I sent my GF4 Ti4600 back to the manufacturer to be repaired or replaced, etc. It was showing some artifacts when cranking up the res. It turned out the video card was at fault. They sent me a refurbished card the next week. I tried it and while booting saw artifacts in the boot screen. Then I get into WinXP and then it gave an error saying Windows has detected and recovered from a hardware failure, please reboot. It changed the screen to 16 color 640X480. It's a bad video card again. Guess I'm one of those lucky people that just keeps getting bad hardware. So I'm sending the card back AGAIN. I put a nice little note in the box telling them I want a new video card, not that refurbished junk. I never trusted repaired electronics.

By the way I know the card is bad and it's not my mobo because I tested another card in my system and it worked fine and I gave this card to someone else and they were having the same problems I was having with it.

Thought I share that with everyone. Anyone else have a similar experience?

    Regards

This is the Leadtek card? Pretty unusual to get bad hardware from them... especially two times in a row. But good call on asking for a new card. After all, you BOUGHT a new card so there is no reason to expect used when it had a problem.

Yeah it's a Leadtek. I always heard good things about their cards.
When I got the card back after I first sent it in and saw they sent me a 'refurbished' I had a bad feeling. Turns out I must be psychic, hehe.

I'll be spittin fire if I get another bad card. :flames: :flames: :flames: :flames: :flames: :flames:

Refurbished electronics are not necessarily a bad thing. It was probably labled "refurbished" by the vendor, not the factory. Usually "factory refurbished" means that it was put on an inspection bench by a trained technicion, with all the proper test equipment, and certified for proper operation.

pcmkr you purchased the card new.......only accept a new as a replacement
Where do companies get off, replacing a new faulty card with a refurbished, likley someones elses problem card, thats been O/C

lts a shame to see good companies doinf this!

I got the card back, popped it in, and everything worked the first time. No problems found. I ran the very stressful UT2k3 for about 20 mins and no hiccups or problems, just smooth gameplay at 1280X1024 with all settings at max where the announcer says Holy SH!T when all the settings are turned to max. It was so funny when he said that.

Glad to heat that life is good again. Speaking of UT2K3, I probably need to see about getting that. I'll check into local prices this weekend sometime.

Actually no it doesn't look like a new card. It's different than the one I sent back though. Who knows. In fact it even has a much smaller heatsink instead of that big aluminum one it's supposed to have :( Kinda pisses me off but as long as it works the way it should i'm not gonna hassle anyone about it.
