  • Ram questions

    Hello!

    I have this motherboard:

    ASRock > X58 Extreme

As you can see it supports DDR3 2000(OC)/1866(OC)/1600(OC)/1333(OC)/1066 memory.
I'm going to buy one of these ram kits:

    1) G.SKILL 6GB (3 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333 (PC3 10666) Triple Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model F3-10666CL9T-6GBNQ - Newegg.com

    or

    2) CORSAIR XMS3 6GB (3 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333 (PC3 10666) Triple Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model TR3X6G1333C9 - Newegg.com

    So my questions are:
a)Does it matter which kit will I choose or no?

b)Both kits work at 1333Mhz. My motherboard supports 1333(OC)/1066.
When I place them in the motherboard will they automatically downclock to 1066Mhz or do I have to set the frequency manually to 1333Mhz in order to work?

    Any help is appreciated.

    Re: Ram questions

    yes they will both work

1066mhz is the default speed, you can either enable x.m.p memory profile which will set the correct ram speed/timings/voltage for you or you can set the ram speed manually by increasing the memory multiplier in the bios,

it will work at 1066mhz or 1333mhz if you set it to run at that
