Laptop buying advice

I'm interested in purchasing a new laptop , and I need some advice on which one to get. Heres a very rough and basic list of what I need , because I don't know my way around laptop specs all that well yet.

AMD XP Processor (P4 Mobile are expensive no ?)
512MB DDR RAM
15" Screen (XGA+ is good ? whats the difference ? I know theres Ultra XGA and just XGA as well)
40GB (or more) 7200RPM
CDRW / DVD Drive
10/100 NIC
Geforce 4 440 GO 64MB or ATI Radeon 9000 mobile 64MB

What should be changed ? Where should I be looking ? What brands ? I know Dell only carries P4 now :(
