    Hello,

    (This question may pertain specifically to people with Gigabyte motherboard & AMD chipset experience who also use CPUID HWMonitor.)

    I have a Gigabyte GA-78LMT-USB3 Rev 5.0 motherboard along with a AMD FX-6300 cpu.

    When I first built my computer I used EasyTune 6 to see my temperatures. While testing I would open up Battlefield 3 to the same chapter in a campaign mission and just let my player stand around. My CPU temp according to EasyTune 6 always stayed at 65C.

    Then I changed the stock CPU cooler and opened up the game to the same scenario. The CPU temp on EasyTune 6 dropped to about 55C. I assumed this was Socket Temp for the longest time.

    Then I installed CPUID HWMonitor and got these readings with BF3 running:
    TMPIN0=39C
    TMPIN1=44C
    TMPIN2=55C
    Package=39C

    In Easytune 6 I get these two readings:
    System=39C
    CPU=55C

    So seeing that TMPIN2 on HWMonitor and CPU on ET6 were always the same, I thought TMPIN2 was always socket temp.

    Then I read some other forums about how to interpret CPUID HWMonitor readings for Gigabyte boards.

    TMPIN0 = System Temperature ---- This is your PCB or Motherboard sensor temperature
    TIMPIN1 = CPU Socket Temperature ---- Temperature sensor that is placed between the socket and the PCB
    TIMPIN2 = Motherboard Chipset Temperature ---- This is your Northbridge (Not CPU-NB don't get these confused) temperature

    TMPIN0 should be system (southbridge)
    TMPIN1 should be CPU
    TMPIN2 should be Northbridge.


    According to this TMPIN2 is not even on the CPU at all it's underneath a heatsink with the GIGABYTE logo. Also the actual socket temp is TMPIN1 on HWMonitor.

    So it doesn't make sense to me that ET6 would use the Northbridge temp nor that the Northbridge temp would decrease when I changed the CPU cooler. Though the stock AMD cooler blew air down towards the motherboard and the new cooler blows air towards the rear fan. Would the hot air from the stock cooler really raise the NB temp 10C? Doesn't seem that likely to me. But I don't know.

    So I would like to know these things. What sensor is ET6 using for the CPU temperature? Also what temps is HWMonitor really showing me? The system temperature on ET6 and HWMonitor line up with what people are saying at least.

    ET6 always display proper info about your board.
    Never use HWMonitor ( a lot of wrong info)....instead.... use HWiNFO or AIDA64.

      Hello Stasio,

      Thank you for your help. I downloaded hwinfo64 and ran prime95 to more easily distinguish between temps. The cpu temp on Easytune6 was no where to be found on hwinfo64. I did locate the system temp between the two programs.

      I did look at HWMonitor also and it had the same temps as hwinfo64. Though hwinfo64 didn't have the TMPIN2 value in HWMonitor.

      I looked around and found someone else wondering what TMPIN0-2 was compared to ET6. His ET6 cpu temp and HWMonitor TMPIN2 values were also the same.
      FX-8350 Temperature Issue on 990FXA-UD3?

      They were going back and forth that TMPIN1 was the NB temp & TMPIN2 was the socket temp and vice versa.

      Looking at ET6, HWiFO64 and HWMonitor, I can only conclude that ET6 is giving a NB temp and not the socket temp. Maybe it's a glitch or they just want to show the hottest temp? I also have to conclude my new CPU cooler indirectly lowered the temps of my NB.

      I recorded my ET6 temp readings with my stock amd heatsink and wanted to know how much my new cooler lowered my socket temps. But I don't want to though the hassle of re-installing my stock cpu heatsink just to see what HWiFO or HWMonitor records.
