  • What do I need to upgrade next

See Sig for specs , I think a new processor should be next ? The ol' Tbird is starting to show its age and I think it would bottleneck a newer video card. If I were to buy a new mobo with DDR400 support would the newer DDR make a noticable impovement over my DDR266 ?

If the motherboard uses the KT266A variety of chipset, then get a new processor. If it uses the regular KT266, then get a new mainboard.

Just my two cents worth, but the remaining components aren't that far out of date.

Oh... and can that HSF and get a real one. :)

Yeah its a KT266A ... do the new HSF's make much more difference ? I mean I'm 1000@1400 - 1.85v , and I idle at 42C and get 48C under load. I'm considering going to water if I want to upgrade my cooling , the noise of the delta is maddening

The new coolers are good. Even though your running good temperatures, these will change when you get the new processor.

In comparison they do, but when you scale them higher then they still produce more heat. After all, the voltage is the same as the Thunderbird unless you get a new T-Bred.

I'd buy a T-bred , I should probably get that before a new video card eh.

Dont upgrade to DDR400, its a waste of time and money. Theres a known issue with the KT400 chipset wherby running the ram at DDR400 you will take a huge performance hit. You will get much better performance running ram at 333mhz. I am speaking from first hand experience here too.

Which would be better to invest in first , a new T-bred or save up for an NV30

Probably the processor, but that's just my opinion on the matter. While your GF3 isn't cutting edge anymore, it will still handle just about anything that you can throw at it.

Most of the time yes , but there are a few levels in UT2k3 that bring it to a standstill , 15fps or so.

That BIOS update works on all motherboards ? Even if its not EpoX and KT400 ?
