  • Backlit Keyboard Stays Completely Lit on SLEEP - 970 Extreme3 R2.0

    Windows 7 Ultimate
    ASRock 970 Extreme3 R2.0
Azio Large Print Tri-Color Backlit Wired Keyboard

While SLEEPING, this keyboard stays completely lit. With my old Biostar motherboard, this wasn't the case.

In BOTH cases, the keyboard was able to wake the computer from sleep.

I'm not sure where to go with this...

In your BIOS, find the Good Night LED option. My ASRock (Intel) board has this option in the Chipset Configuration screen, but I don't know where it is in your BIOS.

Setting Good Night LED to enabled should turn off your keyboard's illumination while in Sleep.

The ASRock AXTU utility for your board may also have this option available to enable and disable.

Please let us know if this works for you.

I was looking at Good Night LED... I am not sure what the setting is right now... I guess it is Disabled.. but my concern was that 'Enabled' might cause other unwanted effects. Do you know exactly what else this will affect?

Enabling "Good Night LED"... did NOT fix the issue.... but it did kill the annoying power LED blink upon sleep. So, I suppose it's a partial win...

        Any other ideas???

To bad, ASRock claims in the manuals for my ASRock boards that the Good Night LED should turn off keyboard and mouse LEDs. But the way your keyboard is wired not might work with this option.

One other thing with the Good Night LED option, do you use the AXTU utility AND have it set to auto-run when Windows starts? If so, the Good Night LED option in AXTU might be overriding the BIOS setting. If you don't auto-run AXTU, then never mind.

Regardless, the USB ports on ASRock boards tend to remain powered up when the PC sleeps or is shutdown. The only other possibility I can think of is in the ACPI BIOS screen, where there are options to enable or disable powering on the PC with the keyboard, mouse, and possibly other devices. Worth a try but probably won't make a difference, and may be disabled by default.

Interestingly enough, after attempting to wake.. I could not. Keyboard, mouse, etc., would not work to wake the PC. Very interesting. Had to set Good Night LED back to Auto. Weird.

I don't auto-run AXTU.. hadn't even installed it before this thread.

Nothing on the ACPI screen in the BIOS seems like it will help.

Any other ideas? This is still an issue.

Some backlit keyboards need to be plugged directly into the computer or into a NON-powered external usb port in order for the lights to turn off when sleeping.
If it's plugged into a powered external usb port then the keyboard lights don't go off when pc is put to sleep unless you press & hold the LED color light for 5-7 seconds.
                cheers

                  Bob.

Everything worked just fine on my old Biostar motherboard.. so I know it is possible to achieve the functionality I am looking for.

The ACPI options in the AsRock BIOS are very limited.. I guess that is weak point about this brand/board...

Agreed. My old Saitek backlit keyboard turned off normally while connected to a powered usb hub too, but some keyboards do not. Hence the workaround :D

                      I'm confused now...

Are you saying try to plug it into a USB hub, or plug it into the computer.. in order to get what I am looking for?

With my BioStar, it was plugged into the mobo.

You can plug the keyboard directly into computer usb port OR a non-powered usb hub to get the lights to turn off normally. I just pulled the power cord from my powered usb hub & the keyboard (& 2 other things on it) work just fine without external power.

Directly into the computer is not working.

                          Haven't tried a non-powered USB hub yet...

I have an older G41C-GS that I just picked up new for a new build. On the motherboard (and explained in the manual) there is a jumper labeled PS2_USB_PWR1. The purpose of this jumper is to either keep USB powered devices on after shutdown or not. The board was shipped with this jumper set to "on". During my build I moved it over to "off" so no usb devices are powered while off. I am assuming this will help during sleep as well.

I don't see mention of this jumper in the Extreme3 R2.0 970 manual.

There IS a BIOS option for this, but it seems to only affect the front panel.
