I have now completed most of the hardware build of the computer noted in the signature below. The computer is intended for video editing and CAD CAM design.
I have been getting the hardware installed for about a week now. In its present iteration I now hear the powersupply clicking during off, on and power-down. Sounds like a heat expansion or cold contraction sound.
The wattage may be an issue (PSU installed is 750w) as in underpowered system.
Here is why I think I need to upgrade my PS. Yesterday I installed the HDD cage in my Lian-Li pc9f case with all HDDs mounted and cabled. I started the computer (cold boot). No light on the start button. Psu was plugged in and on. I fiddled around with the MB power plug and realized that had neglected to plug in the modular side of all the HDD plugs. Did that and the power supply spazzed out. After a bunch of reboots and windows 8.1 pro hang ups during the start sequence the machine is now stable.
I want to assure all readers of this thread that the fan clicking is NOT a fan issue I checked and diagnosed it as either relays or expansion contraction sounds (from circuit heat).
In reflection I have a supported idea: I might upgrade the power to at least 1000 watts.
Please those that read this and have an opinion, what is the latest thinking on manufacturers and models of PSUs for this motherboard and build as noted below! I realize the PSU needs 4th Gen Haswell Cert.
Currently (no pun intended) I've a corsair hx750 purchased in 2013 from new egg. Cost is not a factor until well over 200 USBs. So my budget is around 199.99 USD.
Give me a heads up please as to youtr thinking.
Thanks to all in advance,
Psient1
