  • P9x79-E WS SATA connections

    Hello all,

    I am a bit of a noob...not totally wet behind the ears but some of the deeper stuff I haven't yet had to deal with. I am in the final stages of assembly of my computer and because the mother board I'm using has so many options, frankly, I don't know what I should be plugging into the various types of SATA connections.

    I have;

    ASUS P9x79-E WS mother boars

    4 conventional 7200 1 TB hard drives
    2 512 GB SSD drives
    1 BluRay/DVD drive

    The mother board has the following SATA connections but I really don't know what the differences in them are or how best to use them with my drives listed above;

    2 (Gray) "Intel X79 SATA 6.0 GB/s connectors
    4 (Blue) "Intel X79 SATA 3.0 GB/s connectors
    4 (Gray) "Marvell SATA 6.0 GB/s connectors

    It appears that any of the types of connectors can be configured in raid amoungst themselves, certainly not across types but currently I have no plans for RAID. I could use some advice on how best to utilize these ports and where to plug my hardware in.

    Thanks very much for considering my questsions and I thank you in advance for any advice you might offer

    Re: P9x79-E WS SATA connections

    Hook your hard drives to the SATA 6's and the Blue ray to one of the SATA 3's, the 2 SSD would go to the Intel SATA 6, and the HHD to the marvel SATA 6
