  • HDD Write Cashing

BootVis tells me that Write Cashing is OFF and when I try to go to Disk Drive Properties/Polices the options are all greyed out and I cannot change anything on this section.
Ive got a Quantum Fireball lct2020 and its still set on FAT32 so that it is still compatible with the Win98 & ME systems on the network.
    Any ideas ?

I've seen the same thing with my friend's PC. The possible reasons are your hardisk is on an offboard IDE controller, a SCSI device, setup in RAID configuration, or you have proprietary drivers like VIA which do not allow this setting to be enabled. There is a registry setting which allows you to enable it anyway but I'm sorry to say I don't know how it's done. Besides it must have been disabled for a reason.

you could try looking in BIOS. It might be disabled.

Aside from the fact that RAID configurations and SCSI drives don't allow write caching, if you have a single IDE drive make sure you haven't installed the VIA 3014 Miniport driver. If you have, uninstall it as it is completely unnecessary. Only the 4-in-1s are required if you have a VIA system.
