Does anyone know if the eSATA on this board supports port multiplier? Does anyone know the name of the chipset controlling eSATA for this board?

I am trying to connect a Mediasonic ProBox HF2-SU3S2 4 Bay 3.5" Hard Drive Enclosure with 4 1TB drives to the eSATA port but for some reason it is not recognized. On the bios, only one hard drive is detected. However, I get nothing in Windows 7. Mediasonic says the eSATA must support port multiplier. How can I find this out? The ASRock site does not provide any information on this.

    Any help is appreciated.

The eSATA port is shared with one of the 10 sata ports of the Intel chipset X99 (connector SSATA3_3). As far as I know Intel SATA ports don't provide port multiplier.

If you are considering an aftermarket port multiplier, keep in mind that the Mediasonic web page for your external 4-bay hard drive enclosure says:

Important Note: When connecting via eSATA interface, customer's computer hardware needs to have Port Multiplier w/ FIS-based switching in order to access multiple HDDs simultaneously.

          You're welcome.

I saw that parsec provided excellent information to your question in the "other" ASRock forum.

A web search using: x99 lsi sas/sata card shows that the ASRock X79 Extreme11 included an LSI raid controller card but it looks like a similar aftermarket setup would cost at least $200 and possibly much more.
