  • Updated BIOS on E3C226D2I now can't boot from USB

I have a E3C226D2I motherboard that was on BIOS version 2.00. In the process of trying to eradicate some issues, I updated the BIOS to the latest (v3.30). The update went fine, but now the system won't boot from any bootable USB flash drive, which is critical for its operation. :( All I get is a black screen with a flashing cursor. I've tried bootable drives made in a variety of manners, including a Yumi-made drive as well as a pure FreeDOS drive. I've tried resetting the BIOS settings and re-doing them from scratch, forcing all USB ports to "Legacy", disabling UEFI and USB3, and also tried just using the drives in USB2-only ports. Nothing works, and I know these flash drives are bootable and in fact one was booting the computer prior to the BIOS update. And of course, I can't downgrade the BIOS version. Any thoughts as to what I'm missing? My server is now totally down until I can fix this. Thanks

Were you able to find a solution to this problem? I just encountered the same issue after a BIOS upgrade this evening.

This procedure from ASRock tech support worked for me to get it booting from USB again:

To fix the flashing cursor being stuck on screen, please try to clear the CMOS for once by holding down the case power button without the 24-pin power cable attached to the screen and without the CMOS battery. Once 30-second has passed, reattach the power cable to the board as well as the CMOS battery. Wait until you have the BMC heartbeat, then manually turn on the board.
