Hello everyone. This issue started after I upgraded my PC recently. My previous specs were:
Asrock N68-UCC
AMD Phenom II X3 720 2.7ghz
6gb DDR3 1333mhz (4gb + 2gb)
bios version 1.10 (stock)
Geforce GTS 250
Windows 7
My budget was pretty low and I had an ASrock N68-VS3 FX (which is almost the same mobo but with FX 8-core support) in another computer I wasn't using.
So I used that mobo and went for an FX 8120 Bulldozer 3.1GHZ and 12gb of RAM, keeping the 4gb module and replacing the 2gb with a 8gb (all of them are kingston KVR 1333). Additionaly I had to buy a Thermaltake Contac Silent 12 due to lack of effectiveness of 8120's stock cooler and it's high TDP.
After installing everything, I went to check the new specs on the system properties of Windows, and the ram section says "12gb (8gb usable)". I entered the bios setup and found out it was working on single channel:
CPU-Z also shows single channel mode.
The strange thing is, when I on the computer and press tab to see the memory checksum, it only reaches to 8192kb. Then, in the bios setup you can see both modules are recognized.
I tried manually changing the frequency to ddr3_667, but the result is the same.
Memory modules are ok and work fine in dual channel on my old mobo (N68-UCC) and a Sempron (pic related)
I also did a cmos clear and bios update to the latest (1.80) with no luck. At this point I think it should be a damaged dimm slot or motherboard, or some issue with the cooler or the CPU.
Any help will be appreciated.
