help - overclocking problem with MSI KT3

help me!

my setup is:
MSI KT3 Ultra 2 R
Athlon XP+ 2100
FSB: 144mhz
Asus Ti4600
512 mb Samsung 2700 DDR
IBM 115Gb 120GXP
Volcano 7+

my problem: i have just started to o'c my system. i have o'cd the FSB to 144, but the system won't allow me to go past this - when i exceed this value and exit the BIOS, it turns off windows and tells me to restart.

is this a known problem, or does anyone know how to fix this?

depending on what type of chip your XP is that may just be it's limit.
You could check slow down your RAM speed/timings in case that's casing the problem

You might need to unlock your chip & reduce the multiplier to reach a higher FSB - but I would expect to hit 220MHz if I were you

Athlon Palomino XP2100 is the chip - what exactly do i need to reduce in the ram?

I'm not familiar w/your particular MB maybe someone else can help - or try the forums @ AMDMB.com they have a whole MSI section

at any rate - you want your RAM running at the same speed as your FSB and the timings set to the highest values possible...that should allow you to set your FSB as high as it will go - but don't expect to squeeze out any more that a couple more MHz

If you have more success please post as I have a similar system to you. They only difference is that I can only get to about 140 and then the system crashes. Can anyone tell me what a normal operating temp would be for this kind of system. I idle at around 47 cpu temp but I think I can get cooler if my case temp was lower, it is usually around 43. I have 2 case fans w/ a volcano 7. I used generic thermal compound but an waiting to get artic silver 3. Any help or ideas r appreciated

the FSB can now go over 144. i achieved this by increasing the VCore to around 1.8v.

i have 3 case fans (80mm ,2 in, 1 out) and a volcano 7+. using the medium fan setting, i idle at around 30 degrees. 42 is the highest under full load.

How r u keeping it so cool???? What is you case temp and what thrmal compound did you use. Where are your fans set up????

What exactly do you mean by setting timmings to the highest vaules?? I think I know what you are getting at but please give me an example so I can be sure.
