Formating win 2000 NTFS

Ok, so I've decided to install win XP, and I don't know how to uninstall win 2000 with the NTFS filesystem.
I don't have any partitions, but I plan to. Can anyone help me?
How many partitions should I have? I have an 80 GB harddrive. Thanks :)

I would stick with NTFS as FAT32's limit is right around 80GB.
If you want to you can partition your drive.
To install XP just put the CD in the CDRom and reboot. It will guide you through, its not hard at all. During setup its going to ask you if you want to make one big partition, of just use part of the drive.
I personally like 1 partition setup, but everyone else might have other reasons for 2 or more. Its not needed if you're not dual booting.

There are reasons to use either file system. It is generally accepted that if there is no compelling reason for fat32, then use ntfs. There also is no 80gb limit with fat32 as Kane2g stated. The following is from MS site:

I take this from experience. FAT32 wasnt able to format the 120GB drive that I was trying to install. It might be that the drive was an external one, but i dont think so.
I always choose NTFS.

The last item in that MS blurb says that during installation, Windows can only create a 32gb partition using FAT32, so use a boot floppy to partition larger drives with FAT32 before installing Winxp. I've done it many times on machines and it has worked fine. We can debate choices but we have to keep the facts straight.

Well, i read that. and I am not talking about installation maximum. It was a firewire external drive, so there is no way i would install to that !!!! :)
I tried formating it thourgh Computer Management / Drive Management. Tried formating and got the error saying that max is 80gig. Would it be only for external drives??
I personally dont have anything bigger than 40gig, so i didnt try it with an internal.

You got me there, I don't know about external drives. Maybe someone else knows about that. If no one else responds, I'll try and research it some more.

I am not saying that you're wrong. but I have seen this in action, thats why I said it was 80gig. I dont think it would matter if its internal or external, as its still NTFS so it wouldnt make a difference.
I'll see what i can find too. we'll compare notes. :D

8,000,000 megabytes......ahhh the possibilites....you could have just enough room to store all of windows duplicate files and multiplying invalid dll and vxds.
