  • GF2 MX400 64 mb vs this onboard?

MICROSTAR K7N2G-L NFORCE2 SOCKET A LAN VGA ATX
I run a cheaper version of this Microstar mobo without vga. But now I have a chance to get my hands on this one with vga.

My ques is how does this onboard nforce2 vga perform compared to a external Geforce 2 MX400 with 64 mb mem?

Do they support only dx7 or what? And speed, is there any noticeable difference?

    /Thx

A GF2 MX vs a GF4 MX but both have only DX7.1 support. If this is just an office PC then it would be more than enough but if it's used for gaming then the non VGA version and a good R9K (doesn't need to be the Pro ver) would be much better as it's also DX8.1 compliant.

Here is a <a href="http://www.msi.com.tw/program/products/mainboard/mbd/pro_mbd_detail.php?UID=398&MODEL=MS-6570">link</a> with the specifications for your motherboard.

The onboard video is a GeForce 4 MX 440 64 MB which is better than the GeForce 2 MX 400 64 MB. The motherboard is probably better than your current one as well. This one supports USB 2.0 as well as AGP 8x and many other new features.

The grahpics chip does not have any dedicated memory, rather it takes a user specified amount out of the system RAM. The way the motherboard is shipped, it's a GF4 MX440 with 0MB RAM.
