Flight Sim 2002 Frame Drop

Come on all you tekkies help me out. when I start on FS2k2 all is fine, can run everything maxed out no problem, if I fly for any length of time usually after about 35-45mins I get a massive frame rate drop from 17-25fps then all of a sudden 4-6fps and no coming back, can anybody help or suggest.

AMD 1800XP
128mb GForce MX 440 with new nvidia 43.05 drivers (this was happening before I installed the new drivers)
1024 MB PC2700 RAM
40GB Maxator
GA7VR Gigabyte Motherboard
Twin Expansion Card cooling fans (this thing sounds like a hovercraft but runs supremely cool)
Windows XP Pro

Has been suggested that it could be a memory leak from another program causing a paging problem, how do I find out?

What is your resolution and refresh rate, also possibly montior, or a flaky vga card

Resolution 1152x864 75.
Have been on to Pitstop.com and run test, VGA OK according to them.

Forget PCPitstop.

Use my WinXP Guide to optimize all your settings, particularly your memory caches and Virtual memory settings. If it's a "memory leak" the this will resolve the problem.

Once you've applied the guide, give the game a go and you'll see it running much better.:thumb:

Ok followed your XP guide and all is working fine apart from No detection of Second hard drive on boot also the detection process is taking a very long time i.e 1 minute also outlook express is taking an age to pop up when I click it its about 30 secs before it appears, suggestions? otherwise it's great.

You have not followed my guide in detail. THe fix for the outlook express slowdown issue is addressed in the Registry Editor section of the guide for example.

No detection of 2nd hard drive on boot has nothing to do with Windows, that's a BIOS issue. Windows hasn't even loaded yet at bootup. Go into your BIOS and enabled all IDE channels and check through it thoroughly.

The detection process taking a long time indicates that your BIOS settings aren't quite correct. Also, there may be a cable loose, but once again it has nothing to do with Windows or my tweak guide. If you've installed a chipset driver (like the VIA 4in1s or the Intel INF drivers, or Intel Application Accelerator), reinstall them.

The HD issue has been sorted, all I done was disconnected and reconnected and it detected no problem. i think I'll go back and start again, will let you know. thanks for the advise I will get it right I promise

Right it's all done and woring great thanks very much, I never thought butchering the registry would have such a good effect. I always thought it was a big no go area.:)
