Are you going to be overclocking?

The 2.4 with its lower multiplier will be faster at the same clock speed as the faster clocked processors.

For example a 2.4 at 3.0 has a bus of 1000mhz, where the 3.0 is only at 800.

You will need fast quality RAM as well, don't plan on skimping out there.

If ya go the P4 way then ya'll be better to go for PC4000 to get the best out that setup as ya'll be lookin' at FSB speeds around 250MHz+ (quad pumped = 1000MHz+).

hmm, that gets really pricey at 2x512MB combo, its around $350.

i could go with a 2x256MB combo but i wouldnt want to get short on memory because i know xp uses a lot of memory. but if i had to i could get 1 stick now and wait for a while to get another.

The Corsair 3700 won't make it to 250mhz, which you will want to reach to be at 3ghz even.

However, the OCZ 3700 Gold will, and at better timings as well. It is pretty much DDR500 (4000) memory in disguise.

ok i'll buy 1: CORSAIR MEMORY XMS Extreme Memory Speed Series, Low Latency 512MB 64M x 64 CMX512-4000PT With Platinum Heat Spreader. and then buy another later.

or i can just wait for christmas and get some hella good memory
    ($300-400 range of 2x512MB pc4000)

what kind of performance difference would there be with a 2x256MB 512MB setup against a 2x512MB 1gig setup?

and im also wondering... would the ThermalTake Aquarius 2 be a good water cooling system for the new hardware im buying or should i save up and get a better one??? (i went to 3dgameman or 3gm and saw their video review of the mobo...and the chipset + other cooler is very very quiet) so the water cooling system will only have to cover the CPU because i already have the ThermalTake Giant 2.
