Thread: Asus A7S333 BIOS Problem

When trying to boot the BIOS, the screens stop at the Asus logo screen. Sometimes one can get into the BIOS but within the BIOS there's no adjustment for removing this logo. Also, the Boot section of the dropdowns contains only Legacy Floppy and Hard Drive options. It freezes at the "legacy floppy" designation.
I've reset the CMOS but that hasn't changed anything. Could the BIOS be corrupt or damaged? If so, what are the options?

It should be called boot logo or something like that. Most recently, while building machines with asus a7v8x-x mobo's, I have turned this anoying screen off(mostly to protect the users) since the bios flash utility can be accessed from there.

Trying to fire up an ASUS A7S333 with a XP 1800+ CPU and DDR 266 memory, normal drives etc...., but I get absolutely no beeps, nothing, although drives spin up and LED on the board is on. Have tried changing EVERYTHING else, including CPU, memory, etc. etc., still nothing. Tried jumpers in all positions, tried jumper-free position.... Could it be the skimpy passive heatsink on the chipset that shuts the board down? Could it be that the power source (300w) is malfunctioning?
If the board is shorting out, can the board be tested without placing it in a case? Should I move it to another case....
These pesky mobos are damnably mysterious until you get that reassuring BEEP

I have almost the same setup, tell me did it work before??
Is the computer shutting down after powering up or it just stays powered doing nothing??

It keeps running. I can hear the HDD gurgling at first, then just the whirr of fans and the sound of a silence in the BIOS.

I've had bad power supplies give identical problems. If it were a case short or a hsf problem, it would shut down in short order.

I had a power supply blow last week while running 3d '01 upon completion of a customers new machine. Everything was new, case , a7v8x-x, xp2600b , ti4200, 512pc2700, wd 80gb, dvd rw, floppy, 3 fans, junky 350w psu. I told the guy the psu that came with the new case would blow anytime, did not expect it to go that soon (2 days). Lucky nothing else fried. Only the led on the mobo lit, no beeps at all.
Swap the psu to see. If it is, chuck the toast one to avoid further damage.

It was the power source after all. Thanks for all replies. Goes to show you can't take anything for granted!! Especially PSU's.

Nice to see you got it working. Athlon xp cpu's and related mobo components can be very demanding on a psu, even enough to blow a new one if it is cheapo enough. Computers are using more power these days than ever before.
