What's the difference between Opteron and Itanium?
And for the Opterons: What are good motherboards for them?
I'm about to buy 2 Opterons but I need a good motherboard and I'm not too familiar with AMD's and their mobos.

    Thanx

The Itanium is 64-bit "only". It is made for extreme high end applications like the Earth Similator. They are extremely bandwidth and code hungry. To unlock their full potential very special and lengthy code must be written for them. An Itanium could be as powerful as a 10Ghz Opteron it has been said, if the code were optimized perfectly.

They are not your every day processor and suck when emulating 32-bit mode.

The Opteron is a better choice IMO (and maybe cheaper).

    ah... i see now...
Then I suppose Itanium aint the stuff for some video-editing and whatnot.

Do you, by any chance, know some affordable, but very stable mobos?
