Have I bought the wrong RAM for my M'Board?

Hi, I've just bought a 2GB PC 2700 DDR 333 CL2 184-pin DIMM PC2700 Memory to fit into my Asus A7V8X-X m'board but it will not run.
The manual says it takes- DDR DIMM Sockets, PC2100/1600 non-ECC DDR SDRAM
The pc will not even boot. I'm sure it is fully fitted into the slot
Can you give me any advice please?

I believe that motherboard cannot handle 1GB sticks.

I think the problem is with each DIMM slot supporting a max of 1GB.

I think you should buy 2 1 GB sticks instead of a single 2GB stick.

The Motherboard references tell me that it has 3 DIMM slots and each support a max of 1 GB totalling a Max of 3 GB support.

So if u put in a single 2 GB stick in the port then it wouldnt work coz it is not supported.

Hope this is helpful though a little bit late.
