GA-5AX - all it tells you is its made by Gigabyte nothing much else

maybe its just me wanting informative model numbers or something
    So for GA-5AX
    will be
    GA-Gigabyte
    5 for 568
    A for aladin
    X for ATX

it wasn't that bad. just had to know, like asus A7V333

    We know they have meaning...

It's just that they are not as clear as say ASUS..

That is what we were discussing :)

The GA-5AX was a socket 7 board based on the ALi Aladdin chipset - didn't most boards with the Aladdin 5 have big issues?

    Gigabyte GA-6VXDC7

Dual PIII 1GHz board Via Apollo Pro 133A chipset - Win2k Stable as a rock.
No problems at all - Bios has only a limited number of settings so is by no means an overclockers board - great for the duallie set up.

I found the 5AA and 5AX boards to be quite stable and offered a degree of overclockin' but the EPoX boards based on the VIA MPV3 chipset afforded a better BIOS which made them a much better overclockin' board. :smokin:

But I'm finding myself leanin' towards their GA-7VRXP for the next PC even though the BIOS still doesn't have all the special features I'd like. :thumb:

Well this XP1800+ and GA-7VRXP motherboard that has now been running test and benchmark loops now for 36hrs with no problems at all. :thumb:
It would have to be the fastest bootup board that I've come across, got into the Memtest86 boot disk 3 times before I got into the BIOS, wow <img src="http://members.optushome.com.au/wiggo100/spin3.gif">
I don't go much on the CPU thermal sensor though as I think that its reading the temp of the chips under the core of the XP and not the back side of the core itself. :(
There has been no problems with anything not working or programs not installing or running as yet. In fact I didn't hit 1 snag at any stage which was very surprising and so far will have to give it a 9 out of 10.
