    Default onboard HDMI

is onboard HDMI good enough to do a good job on a typical LCD?

As long as your system has enough horsepower to process the content, it should work fine. Most systems that have onboard HDMI in place should fall into this category since the HDMI only gives the capability of exporting high-def content to a device compatible with the standard. Even laptops with HDMI export well to a large screen television most of the time.

1080P is what really needs the power. Anything lower should be fine with a decent dual core along with a decent HDMI equipped board.
