    Default i7 920 2.6ghz at 3.6ghz overclock on RIIE, almost stable, BSOD help?

    I'm working on getting my CPU overclocked to 3.6ghz (on air).

    For reference:

    I have a thermaltake case with 4 120mm silverstone fans in the front (Front HDD fans are FM121-B x 4 (120mm silverstones) 17-39DBA 2400 RPM, max airflow 110.03CFM, pushing the HDD heat to back) and on the xigmatech cooler is a good 120mm fan, then on the rear i have an antec 120mm fan. I have 11 harddrives going at once (12 drive bay).

    At 2.6ghz, with case closed, i get between 36 and 40C for idle temp roughly.
    At 3.6ghz, i'm averaging 36-40C idle with Case OPEN and 74C on prime95 blend for a max (is this too high? 90C is the cutoff area). These temps via speedfan.

    I received a BSOD during prime95 blend overnight:
    stop 0x00000124 with these settings:

    AI overclock =manual
    CPU =18x
    CPU Turbo power limit = Enabled
    BCLK = 200
    PCIE = 100
    Dram = 1603
    UCLK = 3208
    QPI Link Dram = auto
    dram timing 88824
    EPU II phase = full
    LLC(load line calibration) = enabled
    cpu diff amp = auto
    Extreme OV = disabled
    CPUV = 1.26
    CPU PLL = 1.86
    QPI = 1.3
    IOHV= auto
    IOHPCIE = auto
    ICHV = auto
    ICHPCIE=auto
    Dram Volts = 1.65
    CPU spread spectrum = disabled
    pcie spread = disabled
    CPU clock skew = auto
    IOH clock skew = auto
    C1E = enabled
    Hardware prefetch = enabled
    adjust. cache prefetch = enabled
    virtualization = enabled
    speedstep = DISABLED
    CPU TM = enabled
    Cstate = disabled
    Execute disable bit = enabled
    HT = enabled
    A20M=disabled

    *Now that i've bluescreened, does anyone think i should probably revert my C (OS) image back to one before the bluescreen (could there be corruption as a result of bsod)?

    **I'm guessing my BSOD is due to the qpi being low or maybe CPUV..

    I will run a test tonight to try again, this time i've changed:
    CPU PLL = 1.88 (probably not going to help)
    QPI = 1.34

    This is on the rampage II extreme board (dual ati 4870's), with 12GB Corsair TR3X6G1600C8D (1600mhz 88824).

    The board runs stable (i think) at regular settings, with qpi at 1.35 dram at 1.65, cpuV i think was auto on my normal settings and 1600mhz for ram.

    Any thoughts on what to tweak here?

    Thanks

    0x00000124 BSOD means you need more QPI/Vtt voltage

    Thanks, i've gone back to 1.35 qpi as i was stable at regular settings there, will prime95 it later on..

    I also lowered CPU PLL to 1.86 for now. Left cpuV at 1.26.

    Speedstep still off.

    Someone also suggested going with 19x190, which i have, (ram now at 1555 or so).

    I'm assuming if all of the above it stable, i could try to lower CPV and PLL, and then eventually turn speedstep back on (if speedstep is usefull)?

    I would not use speedstep at that high clock, but you can try it will just take you much more tweaking to get stable.

    What did you lower to 1.35 QPI/Vtt? I said 124 BSOD means you need more not less, so just checking

    Yep qpi.

    What does speedstep do exactly..

    It allows the board to lower your CPU multi and voltages when Idle >>

    Ah ok, i thought it was some sort of power saver mode.. Sucks b/c my electric bills have been rather high :D

    I'm still getting the 124 bsod screen w prime95 blend. Usually minutes into the test. My qpi is 1.35 with ram at 1.65. I've even tried changing ratio and bclk which lowered ram speed to 1445ish. No luck. Cpuv at 1.26 but as noted this error is ram related

    any thoughts?

    BSOD 124 means you need more QPI/Vtt, simple raise it that is ALL you need to do
