I prefer to download directly from the Realtek website.
I tried to install it via Realtek and I get the same problem.

It says it can't find the realtek network controller, so i'm assuming I need to download this first? I can't find it.

Also, how do I get out of sleep mode?

    Download and install CPU-Z.
Start CPU-Z and click on the ABOUT tab.
    Click on SAVE REPORT (.TXT)
Open the report file and look for the following entry:
    Description Ethernet Controller
    Location bus 4 (0x04), device 0 (0x00), function 0 (0x00)

You can upload the report file as an attachment in a post if you have any questions.

Check your mobo user manual for bios settings that relate to sleep mode, possibly in the Power Management Setup section.
Also check the Power Options in windows Control Panel for sleep/hibernate settings.

    file storage
Thanks mate, but still same thing.

"The Realtek Network Controller was not found. If deep sleep mode is enabledd. Please plug the cable"

Also went to power settings via control panel and made sure the computer goes to sleep 'never'.

Via BIOS, there isn't an option for sleep mode etc but theres a thing called HPET Support which is enabled and ErP Support is disabled, not sure whether these make a difference?

I didn't see any reference to Ethernet Controller or Network in your CPU-Z report.
Unless someone has additional suggestions, you will probably need to test your system with your motherboard removed from the computer case.
It sounds like your motherboard's ethernet controller is defective.

Yes this is what I assumed, it's not letting me install the required driver because it can't find the LAN network adapter.

I'll speak to the place I bought it from tomorrow and request a replacement.

Thanks for all the help anyway guys, much appreciated :)
