Default Z68AP-D3 Ethernet/Network Problem. Deep sleep mode!!

    Hi guys,

I recently built my PC with the following spec.

    i5 2500k CPU, Z68AP-D3 Mobo, Radeon 6870 GPU, 550 OCZ PSU.

Everything went to plan, no problems. Installed window 7 64bit, again no problems.

Went to plug in the ethernet and it wasn't finding anything, been on manage devices etc and still no network options.

I'm pretty sure I need to install the LAN driver, I have sourced this and tried to install it, but when I get to the end of the installation it says this error:

"The RealTek Network Adapter/Controller was not found. If Deep Sleep Mode enabled Please Plug the Cable"

After a lot of researching into this, it seems quite common however i've done the things that are recommended such as reset mobo by removing RAM and PSU for a while, but still no network adapter or the same error message.

Things i've done to try and fix this:

Reset CMOS by button and battery.
Removed RAM and PSU for an hour.
Made sure LAN is enabled in BIOS.

None of these solutions have worked

Any help or advice is much appreciated.

    Thanks

Is your motherboard rev 1.0 or 2.0?
Is the adapter enabled in your bios?
When your system is booting, are there any LAN connector lights on?
Did you try to download and install the drivers from Realtek?
Did you download and use the Realtek Diagnostic software from the Gigabyte downloads page for your motherboard ?

    Thanks for the reply.

It's Rev 1.0, the LAN is enabled on the bios yes.

Just booted system on and no sign of lights where the LAN connector is.

Don't think the driver was from Realtek themselves but it is realtek.

I downloaded this realtek ethernet diagnostic from the CD that came with Mobo but no idea how it works? Everytime I open it, it's just blank.

In windows Device Manager, is there a listing for the Realtek Controller, probably in the Network Adapters section?
If yes, are there any error codes in the Device Status window of the General Settings tab?
When you are booting, watch the LAN connector's back panel to see if one or both of the lights momentarily come on.
Can you test with another LAN cable?

Thats the problem, the device manager isn't coming up with Network Adapters at all. I have just tested with another ethernet cable and no difference

I've researched people having the same problem and that removing the RAM +PSU for a good few hours will work, but this doesn't work either. Also reset the CMOS.

    No luck

    Removing memory shouldn't be needed.
In some cases, a 12 - 24 hour cmos clear is required with the power supply unplugged from the wall outlet, and with a jumper block placed on the CLR_CMOS pins.
I always build and test my systems with the motherboard resting on a cardboard box beside my computer case.
Never place an anti-static bag under the motherboard.

Are you using the latest bios for your motherboard?
Go into the bios and at the main screen, press CTRL+F1 and then check the LAN settings.
It might be worthwhile to disable the LAN adapter, save settings and exit, and then boot back into the bios where you will enable the LAN adapter and try again. Have you tried disabling all sleep and hibernate modes?

I'm not sure, how do I check if its the latest BIOS?

I just went did what you suggested (disabling, reboot BIOS then enabling), hasn't worked. Although I see an option called SMART LAN underneath it, when I click it nothing can be done? Just says virtual cable.

I'm certain the reason why it's not showing the network adapters is because I need to download the driver (which I have) but it's in this 'sleep mode' and it's not allowing me to complete installation. I'm unsure how to get out of sleep mode though?

I don't understand? Sorry, bit of an amateur when it comes to this. What do I need to right click? There is no LAN drivers on the cd that came with the MoBo? Just simply the ethernet diagnostic utilities.

You often need to right click on the program file that you want to install, in this case you would click on the downloaded Realtek LAN Drivers.
You can download the LAN drivers directly from Realtek or from the Gigabyte utility downloads page for your motherboard.
I prefer to download directly from the Realtek website.
