    Default Asrock x58 extreme3 and windows 8

I have an x58 extreme3 motherboard with windows 8 installed. The problem is I can't install the audio drivers on the cd that comes with it as apparently these drivers aren't available for windows 8. This hasn't been a problem until recently when I try using a microphone the playback is extremely distorted. Attempting to use a microphone also usually follows with a computer crash. I have tested the headset on another computer and the microphone works perfectly. I have tried all other troubleshooting fixes with no success, leading me to believe this is the problem. I have also tried downloading the windows 7 64bit (I have windows 8 64bit) audio driver from the Asrock website and I was unable to install those as well.

So my question is, is there anything I could do to fix this issue, which will allow me to use a microphone?

    All advice is appreciated.

Have you tried to install VIA high definition audio driver ver:v8300c [ (Support THX TruStudio PRO) which is for XP through win7 ] 06/11/2010 from ASRock > X58 Extreme3 > Download Drivers?

Have you tried to let win8 find and install new audio drivers from the Device Manager?
Device Manager --> Sound video and game controllers --> double click on your audio device --> click on Drivers tab --> click on the Update Driver tab and click on Search automatically for updated driver software

Yes, I have done both of those with no success, which is my problem. Trying to install the driver says it can't detect the hd audio device.

I am sorry to hijack your thread. If you still own the Asrock x58 Extreme3 motherboard, I would like to contact you. I have updated the Marvell SATA3 controller firmware without a backup, and am having problems.

You may provide me with a backup of yours for me to reflash.

    Thank you very much!
