    Default 990fx pci 3.0

Was wandering if there was a new bios version upgrade that would allow the Asrock Fatality1 990fx board utilize pci 3.0 express bandwidth? Or would a new board purchase be necessary?

    Thank You.

I believe your AsRock board already supports Pcie 3.0, however AMD/ATI graphics cards do not. You will have to get a supported nVidia card to obtain Pcie 3.0 speeds (not really significant at this time, however). You can then check this with GPU-z under simulated loading.

No PCI-E 3.0 available on any ASRock 990FX boards, not even the new 990FX Killer. ASRock AMD FM2 boards have support for PCI-E 3.0.

    A BIOS update cannot provide a PCI-E 3.0 interface.

There is a bad typo on the Fatal1ty 990FX Killer board's information page that states: 3 PCIe 3.0 x16, 2 PCIe 2.0 x1 . That is contradicted in the full specifications, and PCI-E 3.0 is not mentioned anywhere else on that board's page:

A fast chat with the ASRock folks and it's now correct on the page.

Amazing just how many "supposed' tech related sites just copied and pasted the PCIe 3.0 specs in their haste to be the first to place an announcement on the sites. Now unfortunately the web is just hosed with sites that show this having PCIe 3.0.

    Can you say PR nightmare?

That was some hinkey s**t Asus did there calling PCIe 3.0 on that board. Smoke and mirrors. PLX chip to double the 2.0 lanes is not PCIe 3.0. Shame on Asus.

it should be shame on AMD for taking so long to get pci-e 3.0 support on the kaveri apu's. The hedt processor for amd, the FX, should have got pci-e 3.0 mb upgrades long before this.

There's little gain, admittedly a few graphic synthetic benchmark points maybe, even running SLI in 3.0 slots with the new 3.0 cards. Real feel seat of the pants benefits just aren't there with PCIe 3.0. About as close as it gets to "seat of the pants' is emptying your wallet faster. Actual physical 3.0 slot price vs performance ... no.

What you do get with 3.0 cards is the newer faster GPUs, and in that respect, yes, performance comes from smaller die and speed/processing. Not necessarily via a 3.0 slot though.

I don't see a need to "shame' AMD over 3.0, or lack thereof. Unless you happen to be an Intel fanboy. AMD's running head long chasing the iGPU the past few years has taken some resources and was almost surely a business decision in positioning themselves and their company for the future. Really, seriously, if they had wanted to, as a competing business to Intel, chase 3.0 they'd have offered it by now. They took a left to Intels 3.0 right concerning consumer processors/(i)GPUs and are instead looking for HSA/hUMA to pay off. Gotta admit Trinity and then Richland was a serious launching point and a darn good showing for just coming out of the gate.
