    Hi,
I am on the lookout for at KT400 motherboard for my new Athlon XP 1600+ processor.
I have almost decided to buy the MSI KT4 Ultra 6590 (the cheap one without SATA and Bluetooth!).
Does anyone have some experience with this board or is there perhaps a better board out there?

    Thanks

No, I have not tried that board. I did try the Abit At7 Max2 and had problems with it....ie it died on me (twice).

I would recommend a Epox Kt400 solution. Probably cheaper and better overclocking capabilities! :thumb:

I tried a SOYO SY-KT400 with my AMD Athlon XP 1800+. I think my board has an isolated issue with overclocking.. i can't push it much further than +5MHZ over the stock FSB, whereas my KT266A EPoX 8KHA+ OC'd to 147MHz easy. As far as stock performance goes, the board is awesome, and it includes a Sigma flash/smart media card reader + 2xUSB 2.0 header.

I'm with saidin, though.. check out that EPoX KT400.

The KT400 chipset still has a few issues (which is why I'll stay with a good KT333 board for now) but rumour has it that a replacement for it maybe seen very soon to address these issues. The KT400 is too much like the original KT266 for me. : peace2:

I just picked up an Epox Ep-8K9A KT400 board - to my replace the 8KHA+ I just toasted (don't ask it's an embarassing story)...even though I put it in my sig I probably won't set it up until this weekend & I'll swap HD's for a new WD 60G /8MB cache at the same time :thumb:

My hardware supplier tells me they haven't had any problems with this particular board....although Wiggo is right the KT400 does have a few issues

...still the KT400 does have a preformance edge over the KT333 - especially at a 166FSB - time will tell if it was a bad choice or not.

If you can afford to wait a little longer - have a look at an nForce2 board with dual channel DDR400 support....they won't be available here until the end of the month
