This is an ask out there to any MSI MB people. Are they generally any good?

Also is the KT4 Ultra 6590 any good?

I want to put my old 1400Mhz Athlon chip into in and buy some new 400Mhz memory to replace my 100Mhz old stuff.

I think i can get it all for about 200 quid, then i can buy a new XP chip next year for half the price

Any problems which i should consider.

I have a good 300W power supply etc..

Well, it seems to be a great mobo for the most part. I recently upgraded my comp with it, an AnthlonXP 2000+ and 512mb DDR 2700.

I'm having one nasty little problem with it though. I get terrible artifacts, hanging, crashes and blue screens when trying to play DVDs as well as some really nasty graphic bugs in Dark Age of Camelot (haven't really been in any other games much since the upgrade). I've found one solution to the DVD prob, they play fine if I lower the FSB to 100, which effectivly knocks the cpu speed from 1.67ghz to 1.25ghz. JUST hoping MSI gets this little prob fixed soon

well that sounds a bit worrying, i don't fancy a mb that does that!

might be the bios i suppose!

I think the problem is in the bios, from things being said on the MSi forum it seems they were a bit slow releasing a non beta update to the bios. So it seems the are a bit behind in making everything work properly (if thats it, I certianly hope they catch up soon).

I've had to RMA 8 of these boards in the past 2 months for the same problem... constant blue screening, win2k even booted up and reported hardware failure on 2 of those systems. I wouldn't recommend this board, common sense tells me it's not just a bios thing.
