my friends cpu cooler is dying and i wanted to get him something good. I figured to look at the volcano7 because we found it for 16bucks. Hes got a super7 motherboard w/ a k6-2 450 chip on it. Can the volcano7 fit, or do i have to look at the older volcanos?
    thanks

P.S. I emailed TT about this, but its been 2 days w.o an answer so i figured you guys will be faster.

A lot of SS7 mobo's are pretty tight around the socket area so ya may have problems there. :(

    My K6-2/3's use the CoolerMaster DP5-6H51 (sometimes w/ Y.S.Tech 7K fans). :thumb:

if the volcano does fit...i don't know since i've never used your modo before...get one above 7, like the 7+, 9, or the new 11
I've gone too far and need to move on!

Quite frankly all of those Volcano's would be a waste when a plain aluminium Duron HSF will do for a K6 series CPU. Remember that these already have a heatspreader on them and my K6-3 450 @ 560MHz is quite happy. ;)

I gotta agree with Wiggo....a stock HS/F should be fine, unless he's got something weird and wonderful going on in there that's creating THAT much heat. Maybe just a fan upgrade. I can almost guarantee (without, of course, seeing your mobo) that the TT Volcano 7+ will be more work than it's worth getting it to fit. It's got a pretty large base, designed for newer P$'s and Athlons.

the only reason i was thinking about v7 is because i found it cheap, and i know its good.
since his fan was crapping out, i figured why not get something that kicks butt, but we found some 40cfm fan that i'll put in and call it a day.

BTW still no answer from tt. I'm very dissapointed

Basically ya gotta stick with a 60mm x 60mm single clip format HSF or ya goin' to have big probs with most SS7 mobos as they were only originally designed to be fitted with 50mm x 50mm HSF's (and still a file maybe needed to give clearence). ;)

That may be true, but we have a heatsink that has a 70x70 fan on it. I was suprised by it myself. I had couple of 60x60 fans laying around so i thought it would be an easy swap, but to my suprise it was a 70mm one.
But since the fan is going to be ordered tommorow, and it has kick butt cfm, im satisfied.
besides this system is mostly for downloading mp3s and movies. It doesnt see SETI and probably will never see anything above 36C.

    Thanks everyone

    Its a tyan s1590
For some reason I always had good luck w. tyan, so i have built about 6 systems w. different boards. They dont have any overclock feat, but i dont really care for them. They run stable and thats all i need.
