OK, this is the story. I just received my SOY KT333 Dragon Ultra Platinum MB back from RMA on 1-23-2003. (The embedded sound went bad) On 1-24-2003, I put my computer back together. On 1-25-2003, my sound went out again.

I am going through the steps with SOYO support and I want to look at my other options.

If my decision is to scrap this motherboard, which has only been running my computer since mid December, I would like some suggestions on what the forum would suggest.

I have an Athlon XP 2200+ and DDR333 memory, so obvioulsy, it would need to support that. Higher cpu support would be nice so I can upgrade later.

I don't want embedded sound, I don't want embedded raid, (I am currently using the Embedded raid on the SOYO and will go with a raid card if I get a new mb) I am flexible with the embedded raid (highpoint only) I would like USB 2.0 embedded.

Or, should I just wait and hear what soyo has to say and just buy a soundblaster if soyo tries to screw me.

Sorry for the crappy post, but the damn computer hasn't been up for 24 fricken hours before the sound went bad. I am so very pissed off.

If Soyo can't resolve this problem for you, then demand your money back, don't just scrap a five/six week old board.
Personally I've always used Abit boards, I'm about to upgrade from a KR7A-133 to a NF7-S, which is a superb board,
but it comes with on-board sound, which you say you don't want.

All new mobo's come with onboard sound folks :) But you can disable it in the bios, so if you don't want to use it, just disable it.

I've recently been playing with the EPoX 8K9A2 mainboard that uses the KT400 chipset. Fun little toy and will allow multiplier manipulations on a locked Thoroughbred processor too. :)

Oh, and as long as you stay away from the "+" model, you will only have to disable onboard sound. All other features aren't used on this board so you don't have to mess with them. It also saves you about $20 or so on the price. ;)

Personally I'd go for the EPoX 8RDA+ and if ya only have 1 stick of memory then that will be ok till ya get a second and get the dual memory controllers workin'. Plus as Darth said ya can change the multiplier without moddin' the CPU. :devil win

Really though the nForce2 chipset is a step above the KT400 one even though the KT400 (and KT333) are very good (sorry Darth but I had to point that out).

Too true, but since I don't use the nForce2 chipset, I can't say for certain what they are capable of. But for a no-frills board that will still allow you to overclock to your heart's content, the 8K9A2 is a very workable solution. :)

Actually, that's not quite true. The Abit KD7-E does not.

Anyway, I'd ask for my money back. I've never had a problem with Via boards, but with as much integration as those Soyo boards have, an nForce 2 board would suit ya real well.

    WIGGO THIS IS MY PROBLEM

DAY OR SO BACK I DOWNLOADED THE LATEST BIOS UPDATE VERSION 8 WITH SUPPORT AMD ATHLON XP 1600 - 2100+ SUPPORT AND BUG FIXES. SO I FLASHED THE BOARD. IT BOOTS FINE BUT WHENEVER I SET THE CPU IN SOFTMENU 3 TO 2100+ OR THEN CHANGE THE MULTIPLIER TO 12.5 OR 13 WHICH IS THE APPROPRIATE PARAMTERS SHOULD BE. I SET THE FRONT SIDE BUS TO 133, SAVE AND EXIT REBOOT - I GET A
"WINDOWS PROTECTION ERROR" AT EITHER 1690MHZ OR 1700 MHZ

I ALSO GET THIS IS I LEAVE THE FSB AT DEFAULT = 100 AND IN CPU WHERE IT DISPLAYS CPU MODEL LISTS I SET MULTIPLIER TO ABOVE 13

AM I CORRECT IN WHAT I AM DOING. AND DO YOU KNOW OR CAN U TELL ME IF THERE ARE ANY PROBLEMS WITH ME RUNNING THE BOARD AT 133 OR IS THIS A MEMORY PROBLEM THAT CRUCIAL WON'T RUN AT THIS SPEED OR IS IT THE PROCESSOR. I AM CONFUSED WHEN IT COMES TO 100MHZ SETTINGS AND 133. THE SETTINGS I CAN GET IT TO RUN AT IS I THINK 122 OR 128 FBS. AND WINDOWS WILL LOAD SEEING THE PROCESSOR AS A 1900+ RUNNING AT 1599MHZ OR 1690. ABOVE THESE SETTINGS WILL NOT RUN??? PLEASSSE HELP ME OUT WITH THIS PROBLEM
