    IWILL P4GB motherboard
    Supports dual channel DDR266 memory

With a 2.53 pentium 533 bus. Would it help at all to get memory any faster than 266 ram(2100)?
From what Ive see an read wouldnt that be the best FSB speed you could get from DDR?
With Dual channel DDR wouldnt anything over 266 ram be a waste?
Or would an Athlon with 333 bus be close to it?

There is no reason to use faster memory than 266MHz, if your motherboard wonīt support it. You can use exactly as fast memory as your MB supports.

Just to make life entertaining, I'll dissent from that opinion for this reason:

When you get memory that is rated at a faster speed, you generally also get the opportunity to run the memory timings at a more aggressive setting while still maintaining complete stability. Even if you decide not to overclock the FSB, you can still benefit from faster memory timings without the fear of the system always crashing on you.

    Just my :2cents: worth. ;)

That's exactly what I did. I run my mem at a 1:1 ratio to the FSB, because it just performs the best that way. I have pc3200, but it's running at 278mhz with 3,2,2,2 timings. I could never run my pc2400 that agressively, and I got quite a bit more performance out of my system with these new aggressive timing settings.

I guess my real question is, how much of a performance boost does athlons 333 bus get, out of overclocking it, when compared to the 533 of the pentium chips? A lot better? A little better? Worse than the 533 pentiums?

Thatīs hard to say! I havenīt ever tested that, but I would say that the Pentium is faster. :rolleyes2 :rolleyes2

BTW, My memorys work nice with CL2, 3,2,2,2 settings! THX revenant! :) :) :thumb:

In my experience, the performance boosts of both processors are about equal when overclocking... Only thing is, the P4 can overclock much higher than the athlon can, thus can deliver more performance (just what I've noticed, anybody feel free to correct me if they disagree)

Wow.... almost a full 1ghz higher than your default speed. That's impressive. I hear that the 1.6ghz P4's went to 2.4ghz, very easily. That's crazy... Good crazy! :D :o
