I was told that due to the dual channel DDR, I must have 2 equal sticks of ram.

I'am also getting ready to build a new computer using the asus AZN8X deluxe But from what i have read you can use any amount of memory from one stick to three but in order for the dual memory to work both sticks need to be the same brand and size i think you use slot one and slot three for dual memory and slot one for single . any review i have read they said that board was great but they had trouble figuring out what slot to put the memory in for dual channel only ,no problems with normal use of memory

That's an interesting hint there... just as soon as i upgrade to 41.09 drivers again. i had to format my hard disk due to reasons of undue cause and aggrevation from "things" so i had to scramble the latest WQHL 31.40 drivers from asus. i have an unsolved mystery at the moment with this mobo which i wonder if any of the admin moderators know anything about, which i am still trying to troubleshoot. I know someone else who has the same problems with the board. Mark is running top quality 2 x 256 3500 twinbank dimms, and i am still running infineon 512 2700 1x dimm. If i run sandra 2002 or sandra 2003 or 3dmark 2001se, these applications rate my memory as running at 133 rarther than the 166 effective 333 bus for my mem and the same for marks 200mhz effective 400 bus. The same goes for the processor. We've tried all the tweaks and adjustments plus both our PC's don't restart properly, windows shuts down but then the PC hangs and doesn't restart, occasionally it will after an application installation, and windows prompts . Has anybody else out there heard about these problems yet??

I'm having the same problem (opened my own thread)...so please keep updating this discussion until it's resolved. I'll do the same with mine.

By the way, stipping my board down to nothing (no processor, ram, video, anything) at least made the POST Reporter talk. She says "No CPU installed" repeatedly.

From there you can try adding one component at a time.

In case you didn't know, just connect computer speakers to the light-green audio-out and crank it up. She isn't very loud.

Again, please let me know how this goes.

    Good Luck!

Can you tell me what system rig you are currently running. I'm glad someone else has this same problem. I will keep you updated problem solving issues if i get there first. Thankyou!

Hi adrift, i see you have problems with the card only. When i first set up my system on this board not long ago, it took the board a while to get used to and run in the components i installed. Keep posting, because trying the posting procedures. Make sure nothing is too close to the card e.g sound card, i sometimes get overheat confimration if i move the audigy 2 card to PCI directly underneath the Video card. Can you tell me if the card is a newer 4200 8X AGP revision. It's definately not the piece of plastic which i think just makes it easier for accomodation for the older 4X cards but im not exactly sure, the moderators know exactly what its there for. I have no problems with my card working with the piece removed. " hehe fact i didn't even know what the hell it was doing there and removed it anyway" I know this still does not help your issue. but i think you can rule this issue out of the equation. i think VGA 2 is backwards compatible with VGA standards, this is just advice just in case you were using an older monitor, and again i don't think this is anything to do with the problem. If you have another system with AGP 4X try the card in that and see what happens. In the meantime if i think of anymore reasons

    Antec SLK3700AMB (350w)

Mine will repeat "No CPU Installed" when absolutely stripped. As soon as the processor is installed, it just sits there with fans running and the green light glowing on the board.

I'm going to borrow another "working" processor today and stick it in. If it doesn't give a memory error (next logical step), I'll try another power supply. By then I will have narrowed it down to the processor, power supply, or board.

A working processor didn't change anything. I'm going to RMA the board.

Yes - definately in replacement for another mobo, make sure you get the same mobo tho, once its working - like mine... its great an im only using 2700 x 1 512 stick so far.

In response to Lemieux's problems. The piece of plastic is only there really to compliment the accomodation of older 4X AGP cards, however - this makes no difference if you remove it or not. but for the newer 8X cards you would certainly have to remove it, as the PCB is designed larger for larger bus bandwiths

I have built 2 or 3 comps using this motherboard, but havent run into this issue with any of them. I do believe the factory default setting for the agp slot in the bios is set to 8x though. Try going into the bios and resetting it to 4x. This may work.
    Good luck.

Ps. what are you getting for 3dmark scores with that vid card processor combo?

    Athlon xp 2500 (barton)
    Radeon 9700 pro
one stick of 512 ddr pc 2700 ram
    asus A78NX mobo

    3d mark 2001 score 11600

    this seems low to me.
