i was thinking of buying a GeForce FX 5200. this is a 8x 128mb video card. what would happen if i put a 8x video card onto a motherboard with a 4x AGP slot? how much would it lower the performance?

8x & 4x both works at 1.5V. What you will feel is that slower VGA performance, for application/game that utilize 8x speed. For most circumstances, there will be no different.

Just make sure your VGA card is backward compatible to 4x, check the manual.
