One of my friends has got an old AMD Athlon Socket A 800mhz (8 X 100) processor. Hes running PC100 Kingstion ValueRAM, and has adequate cooling. Any ideas on how overclockable this may be? Its got FSB and voltage adjustments in bios. Lots more optiopns than this damned PCChips boards got

it would be better if he had better ram, or pc133, and unlocking it would help;)

with decent ram and an unlocked cpu, I bet you'll be able to break 1 ghz with out much trouble

but my first AMD cpu was an XP 1500+, so I dont really know what I'm talking about when it comes to that particular core :o
I've gone too far and need to move on!

Most of those old 800's were good for around 1-1.1GHz (some even better) but what chipset is the mobo usin' though? :?:

I aint sure what the chipset is, Im thinking its the KT133, but im not positive. IT got a boatload of BIOS options tohugh, seems that way to me anyways.

If it is a KT133 based one then 108-112MHz on the FSB is usually the limit and the multiplier is needed for more.

i had a 900mhz athlon and i could get 1.2 ghz on it without any heat issues. It wasnt stable at all but the mobo was to blame, POS K7S5A!! someday ill get an epox 8rda+

ps: that was with the core up to 1.85 v and fsb up to 133. i left the mult alone.

It sounds just like a KT133 (KT133A's went further) so don't expect it to get that far.
