I don't know how much experience SB has with AMDs but I don't think he's far off for Bartons. Mine gets pretty close to 50C after overclock and under high loads and warm room temps. I've never hit 50C but I'm comfortable just below it.

Of course Beaner doesn't have a Barton, he has a TB. I also have a TB 2400+ running at stock speeds getting similar temps with the OEM HSF under load. I built a Palamino 2100+ system late last year that would run much hotter than this with the stock HSF and it's still going strong.

I think you are going to get different temps for different chips and if you are running the stock HSF in a well ventilated case under normal room temperatures you are probably pretty safe with whatever you get. After overclocking with an aftermarket HSF and you are getting the same temps as stock speeds with the stock HSF you are probably OK.

BTW....just for sh_ts and grins I upped the 2400+ to a 166MHz FSB from the default 133MHz and backed off on the multiplier to keep the core at 2.0GHz. With PC2700 memory running in sync with the FSB there was a noticeable performance increase with no visible increase in temperature with the stock HSF.

Technically I don't have any personal experience with AMD...just stuff from the guys at OCAddiction, which means what I know is mostly overclocking and what works and what doesn't.

Hmm, then Soulburner, why do you go around trying to give advice like you own plenty of AMD systems?

Only in the areas I know about. And I don't act like I own an AMD system.

No ya act like a full blooded Intel system owner that shouldn't comment on AMD systems as ya obviously don't know enough about them and the way that the multiplier/FSB performance work with them so until ya get ya self one and play with it a lot then pls leave ya comments about them alone as half of what ya usually state for them is wrong. I'm not the only Admin that has pointed this out to ya b4 but until ya get some "hands on" experience with them stop statin' what ya think is right because the performance line can be fudged quite a bit between both multiplier and FSB where as ya Intel systems only know FSB.

I'd like you to try and prove that blatant statement. I know how it works, its the same thing on both systems. :rolleyes2

Soulburner, its obvious you have no idea about AMD stuff, so if I were you, I'd just keep my mouth shut when it came to that.
